David Burljuk (1882 - 1969) RESTING DOE

From the expert opinion of PhDr. Anna Janištinová: "David Burljuk was one of the most prominent figures in the avant-garde, who soon represented his work in the West: he took part in the Der blaue Reiter exhibition in Munich in 1911. At the end of World War II he left Russia for the USA, where he arrived via Siberia, Japan and Canada until 1922. Although he lived there for the rest of his life, he expressed pro-Soviet attitudes, which he also published. His paintings are extensive and multifaceted, no predominant style can be found in it. One group consists of a rural theme, in which the offered image can be freely included. Based on the comparison, its dating to the 40s - 50s is offered. It excels in a distinctive, even distinctive reduction in shape and expressiveness based on color contrast and embossed pasty execution." The offered work comes from the important private collection of Boris Gribanov.
