From the expert assesment of PhDr. Rea Michalová PhD.: "The assessed works " Still Life" and "Figure" form part of a remarkable set of fourteen uniformly conceived collages, some of which motif depict still lifes (7 works), others solitary female semi-nude (4 works) and another guitar theme (3 works). The emphasis on the rarity of this cycle is justified, as the principle of "papiers collés" applied here, so popular with Pablo Picasso and George Braque, is rarely encountered in the work of Emil Filla, except for the short period of 1913-1915. He seldom used it around the mid-1920s and in the early 1930s. He always used the technique of glued-on papers only as part of a drawing, never applying it to a painting." The time when this unique cycle was created belonged to an extremely happy period, which can be described as one of the peaks of Filla's creative and life forces.
