František Hudeček was a Czech painter, graphic artist and illustrator. His kindred spirits included František Gross and Ladislav Zívr. As a sensitive artist, he viewed the world with a certain amount of melancholy, and especially after the war, he created gloomy works with reference to human fate and the unbearable weight of war. The iconic motif of the pedestrian, wandering from nowhere to nowhere, subject to alienation, loneliness and existing only within the clearly defined boundaries of a city or country. He has been dealing with this topic since the beginning of the 40s, when he puts existential feelings of abandonment, protectorate distress and lack of freedom into the work and searches for the meaning of being.
