In 1913, Otakar Nejedlý, together with Vincenc Beneš, became the head of the Modern School of Painting and painted still lifes in the spirit of Cubism. The main subject of his research became shape and color, supported by a strong contour and contrast, and both were still reflected in his paintings for some time. The presented Landscape with a Forest Road is a perfect example of works from this period. The landscape with markedly cubist elements perfectly conveys the impression of contrasts of light and darkness in the forest environment and is complemented by figural staffage.
