From the opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Winter landscape with a forge is an unquestionable and very beautiful work by the painter Jan Václav Kautský, Haushofer's student at the Academy. In 1863 he left Prague and settled permanently in Vienna. Here he impressed with his romantic landscapes, theater decorations and several scenic sets he also created for Prague. The presented work is characterized by an impressive composition, cultivated colors and masterful handwriting. The work is of exceptional gallery value and shows how masterfully the painter controlled perspective and how he knew how to work with light."
