The sculpture of the Winner by one of the most important Czech sculptors was originally part of the monument to the famous writer Svatopluk Čech (1846-1908), realized in 1918-1921. The statue glorifies the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in the form of a small figure of a boy with a laurel branch. Thanks to this work and also thanks to the sculpture of the Wounded (it stood in the seat of the Parliament and President Masaryk took his oaths under it), Štursa was written and spoken of as "the poet and sculptor of youth". Šturso's Winner has two large-scale realisations, in front of Gočár's building of the J. K. Tyl Grammar School in Hradec Králové and in front of the Renaissance Queen Anne's Summerhouse in Prague.
