A KARABACH RUG

South Caucasus, Karabakh, 1911. Dated wool carpet (1330 Islamic) with a dominant depiction of horses and dogs in a horizontal format, a popular design of both Armenian and Azerbaijani family factories. Another popular Karabakh motif can be found in the border, namely distinctive bouquets of roses. This type of Karabakh design with horses and dogs is often referred to by experts as "Atli-Itli", but in our case, a rare antique specimen is unusually complemented by a depiction of cats in the middle of the field.
