Filip Andrejevič Maljavin (1869 - 1940) EIN RUSSISCHES MÄDCHEN

Filip Andrejevič Maljavin and his works introduced him to Czech society thanks to a portrait exhibition in 1933 organized by the Czech Association of Painters Myslbek. Maljavin was a respected and expensive artist at the time. Kings and diplomats, politicians, singers and scientists were his models. He was a student of one of the greatest Russian realists - Ilya Repin. The painter never accepted the Bolshevik regime and emigrated to France. Today, he is best known for his unique style of portraying ordinary rural women. The most popular motif of this author are Russian girls in colorful scarves and sarafans. He paints them with ease and dynamism, often even when dancing, and scarlet red skirts practically became his hallmark. Filip Andreyevich Maljavin came from very modest circumstances and rural motives accompanied him throughout his life. Although he has been criticized for his paintings of the simple countryside, we cannot deny the generosity of the format and the purity of the colors.
