Originally a Russian painter, Grigory Musatov came to Bohemia with an emigrant wave in 1920. Thanks to the recommendation of his friend Jan Zrzavý, he assimilated on the local art scene and became a member of the Umělecká beseda, with which he regularly exhibited. His painterly handwriting in the 1930s turned mainly to Impressionism, the painting was loose, as if dreamy, to which the themes of idyllic landscapes or figures from lyrical stories corresponded. On the other hand, his drawings could have a markedly socially critical touch and were characterized by a striking striking handwriting.
