The study drawing of a woman with drapery belongs to the mural "St. Wenceslas Blesses Work and Progress" commissioned by the architect Osvald Polívka. It is a scene on the left side of the vestibule of the Zemská banka in Prague, Na Příkopech 20. Max Švabinský was considered an accomplished draughtsman and engraver of extraordinary technical skill with a great eye for detail. A leading Czech painter and graphic artist, he studied under M. Pirner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he later worked as a professor and headed the graphic arts specialty. The present drawing was exhibited in 1953 in Kroměříž, cat. no. 78, verso exhibition label with NG copy.
