Jindra Viková (1946) DREAMING

The oldest series of heads was created as a reaction to a study and work stay in the USA in the state of Ohio. As the author herself states, the inspiration was the "Discovery" shows she watched. Here she connects the human world (in the form of a rather girlish physiognomy) with the animal one through various attributes or gestures - animal ears, hugs. Between 1995 and 1996, the stylisation of the heads begins to differ. The heads are hairless, their faces bear the expression of fate (however unfavourable it may be). An important realization from this cycle is St. John of Nepomuk, which was created for the atrium of the house in Loretánská Street in Hradčany as a replacement for the originally placed, but unfortunately stolen, Baroque statue. The cycle of heads is closed in 1999 by works that radiate meditation and silence. Jindra Viková gained international fame in the 1980s for her meticulously painted two-dimensional porcelain heads. She came to prominence as a ceramic artist, but her work goes far beyond that. An important theme in her work is interpersonal relationships. Her work is characterized by a touch of surreality, her rounded sculptures evoke dreamlike moods of other worlds. Viková has exhibited both individually and in group exhibitions in Europe, the United States, where she also worked for some time, Japan, Australia and other countries, and has received several prestigious awards.
