Jaroslav Serpan was a Czech-French painter, poet, writer and mathematician. He was declared missing on May 17, 1976 after a mountain tour in Ariège in the Pyrenees, and his body was not found until May 1981. He moved in the narrow circle of Andre Breton and gradually moved from surrealism to informalism. Ostreecs is one of the abstract works that was part of the author's group exhibition in 1977 in the Cistercian abbey of Beaulieu en Rouergue. The abbey abandoned during the French Revolution was saved from decay and became several galleries of contemporary art. Serpan's works have also been extensively exhibited in Paris, New York, Brussels, Munich and Turin.
