Josef J. Novák studied at the Art School in Prague from 1901 to 1907. He also continued his private studies in Paris and Germany. The statue of a dancer in a tense ballet pose represents a popular genre theme of small period sculptures. Although we do not know much about the author, his sculptures can be considered successful and motivically often focus on depicting the archetypal representative of certain roles - warrior, plowman, dancer.
