František Kobliha (1877 - 1962) ILLUSTRATION FOR THE BOOK "MSTIVÁ KANTILÉNA"

Drawing design for one of the twelve woodcuts - illustrations for Karel Hlaváček's book "The Vengeful Cantilena". František Kobliha was one of the most important representatives of Czech symbolism. The Vengeful Cantilena refers to the French novel Manon Lescaut. The work is full of poems with the theme of defiance and terrifying poetic images. Decadence is hereby intertwined with impressionism, and František Kobliha was almost an ideal candidate for such book illustration.
