Oil on canvas. Signed lower right: "VALTER K 1984 5.2." A later work by one of the most important Czech landscape artists of the second half of the 20th century. Today art critics consider his pre-war work to be unique in Czech art for its move towards constructive composition, crossing into the realm of visual poetry and Surrealist imagination. In his postwar work, a characteristic contribution Valter made to art is his distinctive landscape painting. From 1931, when Valter started to exhibit, he held 65 solo exhibitions and 140 group exhibitions. Valter illustrated 12 books and received many awards for his work. His art is represented in the National Gallery in Prague and many other galleries in the Czech Republic (in Brno, Pardubice, Karlovy Vary, Cheb, Hluboká nad Vltavou, Pilsen, etc.) and abroad.
