Oil on canvas. Signed upper left: “MATSCH”. A young lady in a red dress with butterfly is an impressive portrait by a Viennese Secession painter and sculptor. Franz Josef Karl Edler von Matsch attended the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and established the Maler-Compagnie cooperative with Gustav and Ernst Klimt. In addition to murals, Matsch also painted frescos and created architectural designs; his work includes the curtain for the Carlsbad City Theater.
