The artist is a major figure in Slovak modern painting. He studied at the Prague Academy under professors Josef Loukota and Jakub Obrovský. He was a member of the "Generace 1909" art group, whose members focused on social and national issues. He resided in Paris for a short time in the early 1930s. After graduating from the Academy, he remained permanently in Prague. The rise of Nazism and his own battle with multiple sclerosis had a fundamental impact on Majerník's work. Tempera and gouache on paper, singed "Majerník" on bottom right. Inscriptions and an exhibition label on back.
