Brechler studied landscape painting under professors Mánes and Haushofer. He worked in Budapest and Austria; in Vienna he even taught Rudolf of Habsburg. He was given the title of imperial court painter in 1871. The presented work was made while he was travelling through Austria and Dalmatia. Oil on metal sheet, signed "V. Brechler 1863" on bottom right.
