During her first exhibition in 1959, Olga Karlíková moved away from descriptive units when describing nature. She abstracts the landscape and structures appear, refractions of light on the water surface, and she arrived at a completely minimalist form. She was interested in nature in all its complexity. From 1949-1976 she worked at the Textile Works, which from 1951 was called the Institute of Furnishing and Clothing Culture, designing fabrics, tapestries and carpets. In 1977, she signed Charter 77 and thus closed her way to official exhibitions. She became famous for her drawings of birdsong, which she captured in her diary from 1965 and to which she initially did not attach much importance. For the first time, birdsong became an artistic emblem. She created an alphabet of bird species and was also interested in other animal species.
