Antonín Machek (1775 - 1844) PORTRAIT OF A MAN

From the opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Machek purposefully captured the likenesses of important personalities of his time and circle of life, at the same time he particularly focused on the world of artists, writers and scientists. Antonín Machek signed his numerous works only exceptionally. The presented portrait is characterized by a concise and vivid individual characteristic of the face and delicate coloring. The face is modeled with delicate pink valeres with accurate rendering of all the details of both the face and the clothing. The symbolism of gestures and attributes is one of the features of the classicism of the period, and Machek often and gladly used it."
