The late work of the important sculptor Damjan Pešan, known for his collaboration with Joža Plečnik in the first republican realisations at Prague Castle or the figure of Christ and the saints in the Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in Prague's Vinohrady district. In addition to sculpture, he worked as a teacher and puppeteer. In his post-war work he created the Monument to the Fallen Barricaders and his sandstone reliefs on public buildings in Ostrava also stand out. The large sculpture of the Protector represents a male figure holding and protecting a baby bird from a predator that descends on the man's shoulder.
