Milan Paštéka (1931 - 1998) LEAVING

The figures of Milan Pašteka are depersonalized actors of events that unfold before the eyes of the viewer. Although it may seem like a purely movement from place A to place B, it is an existential movement, we are confronted with the possibilities, challenges and stimuli that the characters have to deal with. Paštéka's work is one of the best that Slovak painting has to offer. Paštéka joined the rebel artist Mikuláš Galand and rejected utopian visions. He did not want art to become a servant of ideology and was determined to preserve his freedom of artistic expression.
