With delicate brushstrokes and a sensitively selected color scale, Blažíček captures the Prague panorama under the strong summer sun. The picture composition allows leaves to slightly conceal the city architecture and highlight the dominant feature, St Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle. This patriotic subject reflects the rise of hope for future Czech independence. Painter Oldřich Blažíček’s expansive oeuvre covered a whole array of subjects. He painted the landscape with remarkable faithfulness; he moved with certitude in plein air every season of the year, but he was also dedicated to painting interiors and bouquets.
