Insight into the psychology of the beast, distinctive pieces that depart from traditional human figures – these are the attributes that define Vincenc Vingler’s work. Vingler kept a healthy distance from art trends, creating his own world filled with animals. Although his fellow artists strove for anthropocentric forms and emphasized the grandiosity of man, Vingler conscientiously built an antithesis to these trends and did not belittle the meaning behind animal depictions in art. Bulls have been featured in art for approximately 40,000 years, and high-spirited bulls (from his Corrida series) defy his calm works filled with delicate emotion: they are full of beastly energy, emphasized by a texture that is somewhat coarser than regularly seen in Vingler’s work.
