František Tichý (1896 - 1961) THE CIRCUS

Circus rings, circuses and variety shows are an important and voluminous part of the artist’s distinctive oeuvre. This watercolor depicts a big top circus flying French flags and surrounded by an open space with caravans and wagons carrying animals. French settings, especially the city of Paris, were truly inspirational for František Tichý, who painted circus, street and Paris café scenes.
