This gentle, refined work corresponds with the Artificialist works Štyrský created during the same period; he and Toyen founded Artificialism while they resided in Paris in 1926–27. The lyrical works, which experiment with techniques while using subdued colors and organic forms, border on abstraction, but still integrate concrete shapes. Like in the Surrealist dreamlike or associative flow of thoughts, Štýrský offers space to open the imagination.
