This excellent Czech painter and illustrator earned international fame with his animated films and perfectly detailed and innovative gouache illustrations. This talent can be seen in the illustration presented here, a beautiful specimen of the artist's work featuring automobiles that are depicted with almost hyper-realistic precision. Zdeněk Michael František Burian was admitted to the second year at Academy of Fine Art in Prague when he was just 14. He stayed at the academy for only two years, and by 16 he was making a living as an illustrator. Burian earned international renown for his work reconstructing extinct animals and plants, which he conducted together with leading experts including paleontologist Josef Augusta, anthropologist Vojtěch Fetter and others.
