Léon Bakst studied art at the Academy in St. Petersburg. Sergei Dagilev became his friend on his trip to Paris and introduced him to the world of theater. Bakst began designing costumes and scenery for the theater, especially for Ballets Russes. Bakst's costumes are classified as Art Nouveau style. They combined the colors of the Russian countryside and Oriental art. Léon Bakst entered the history of art as an influential teacher - Marc Chagall became his student.
