The mysterious nude of a woman in the forest represents the top work of Max Švabinský, who was captivated by female beauty and the fertile power of nature. He translated his bravura draughtsmanship into the rather laborious technique of mezzotint, which is relatively little used today but was popular for reproducing paintings using chiaroscuro. It was this choice that gave the mysterious Symbolist nude its exceptional charge.
