Michael Jindřich Rentz came from Nuremberg to Bohemia in the early 1820s to create a large-scale work of illustration in books published by F. A. Spork. Alongside Matthias Bernard Braun and Petr Brandl, he was one of the best artists of the Czech Baroque period at the centre of cultural life in Kuks.
