Viktor Rolín studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and Munich. He created mostly likenesses, still lifes and landscapes. The landscapes often have a very dramatic touch - they are the scene of weather changes, single streams of light penetrating the landscape through heavy clouds or a storm is about to hit. Still lifes are much rarer in the market and can be slightly historicising. Hunting Still Life with Woodcock and Partridge is one of his most exquisitely executed works.
