Josef Jíra first studied at the jewelry vocational school in Turnov, but then moved to the AVU in Prague. He played a lot of sports, supported himself with promotional graphics and book illustrations. Jíra was a founding member of the M 57 group. The most significant influence on his work was expressionism, which he adapted to his own needs and projected into his landscape paintings.
