The portrait of a girl with a bird in red was painted by Ota Janeček, an important and multi-talented painter whose work was based on both domestic tradition and the legacy of European modernism. From the initial impulses of cubism, lyrical figuralism or French colourism, he turned his attention to his own unmistakable expression. His drawings and prints of female nudes are famous.
