In the 1930s, Bedřich Vaníček stopped painting with oil for health reasons and replaced it with tempera, watercolour and gouache. He published in the magazine Život, worked as a translator, and published a book of essays. His work stands apart from the trends of the time, often depicting women in a colorist manner.
