Probably the earliest drawing of a historicist character comes from the work of Jakub Schikaneder. The fact that in 1879 Květy called the then twenty-four-year-old Schikaneder "the most gifted of academics" is a testament to his aptitude for the study of art. He belonged to the distinctive generation of the National Theatre.
