Vilém Amort graduated from general school in Beroun and in the years 1879-1882 was apprenticed in the sculpting and plastering company of his uncle Alois Amort in Olomouc and at the same time attended Antonio Maria Rabenalt's Sunday modeling school. In 1882, he moved to Prague, but because he lacked a higher education, he could not apply to study at the Academy. His work was mainly of conservative morphology and rejected modern currents.
