A leading Czech painter and graphic artist, he studied with M. Pirner at the AVU in Prague, where he later worked as a professor and led the graphics department. His work derives from symbolism and impressionism, which also marks his sensory relationship with nature. He was an accomplished draftsman and engraver of extraordinary technical skill with great attention to detail.
