ICON OF THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST

The icon commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by the prophet John the Baptist. According to tradition, this event took place at a place where the Jews crossed the Jordan after a long journey out of Egyptian slavery. This part of the river is located near Jericho and near the monastery with a church from 1842, which are administered by the Orthodox Greeks.
