The son of a Roman proconsul in Thessaloniki was one of the noblest Macedonian families. Everyone appreciated him not only because he was beautiful, but he was also wise and good, he was an experienced soldier, and very young he was appointed General of the Thessaloniki Army by Emperor Maximilian Galer. This emperor's policy on Christians was simple: Send to death anyone who professes Christ. Dimitri, secretly raised to the faith by his parents, persisted in following Christ, despite the high military post he held. On the contrary, he devoted much of his time to the public proclamation of the word of God. His life radiating peace, justice, and love led to the conversion of a large number of Gentiles, despite fierce persecution.
