From the expert opinion of PhDr. Nadězda Blažíčková-Horová: "Brandeis was born in Miskovice near Kutná Hora. She began studying painting privately with the painter Karel Javůrk and when her widowed mother married a Venetian, she went with her to Venice, where she continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts there. She was the first woman to study there since 1867. Brandeis also married in Venice and lived there until her husband's death. She became an accomplished painter of vedutas painted in the 19th century tradition. Views of Venetian palaces, squares, temples, bridges and gondolas became the most frequent subject of her paintings, as well as shots of narrow streets and their nooks and crannies. She liked to use smaller formats and the technique of watercolour alongside oil painting."
