Jiří Kolář (1914 - 2002) FOUR LITRES OF GEOGRAPHY

Jiří Kolář never stopped being a poet. Although his work is playful and full of puns, the system of using collage and chisamage is the sophisticated result of long experimentation. The image - as a mere fragment of reality - is put into context by Jiří Kolář, while the word becomes an image. Through destruction, a new means of expression is achieved and the story is told by the object, which becomes the carrier of the message. The text is destroyed to such an extent that its reading is abstracted into a mere perception of visual points and lines, and conventional perception is thus rendered impossible. The original function of the object, which is the carrier of the collage, is recalled only by its shape and becomes the ironic carrier of a new meaning.
