Karel Vítězslav Mašek (1865 - 1927) CHILDREN IN WILD POPPIES

The end-of-century expositions provided many opportunities for artists to find new applications. Karel Vítězslav Mašek created designs for posters and developed allegorical motifs, which were extremely well received, into the form of friezes. In 1898 he worked his way with them to the Architecture and Engineering Exhibition. There is a clear inspiration from Italy, especially the Pompeian frescoes and Sandro Boticelli. Friezes Mašek applied Václav Mlch, a furniture manufacturer in Prague, for the exhibition interior. Teasing and dancing putti in a large-scale composition were subsequently projected into the lounge of Mašek's villa in Bubenč. Reproduced in Zlaté Praze, roč.
