Josef Lada (1887 - 1957) STORY WITH A PARROT

Josef Lada is a pioneer of cartoon series and comics in the Czech environment, he contributed them to a number of Czech periodicals in the interwar period. The submitted work was represented at the Josefa Lady sales exhibition organized by SVU Mánes in its exhibition hall in Prague in 1941. The catalog of this exhibition contains almost 1,200 items and does not indicate the date or dimensions of the exhibited works. A total of 4 related drawings making up the story are adjusted in a common mount. Stylistically related to it are other cycles of Lad's pictorial narratives, which he published in the 1930s mainly in the magazines Kvítko z čertovy žarádky, Světozor, Pražský ilustrovaný zpravodáj, etc. The drawings are in two sizes: 9 x 12 cm, 18.5 x 11.5 cm. The work was assessed and its authenticity confirmed by the expert opinion of PhDr. Pavla Pečinková, CSc.
