Jan Adolf Brandeis trained as a porcelain painter and then studied at the Prague Academy. Brandeis was a sought-after painter of watercolor portrait miniatures. Brandeis's early portraits, which bear the marks of his Munich training, are of the highest quality. Among his customers were especially important noble families such as Thun-Hohenstein, Aehrental, Chotk, Clam-Gallas and Schwarzenberg.
