Václav Brožík (1851 - 1901) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG WOMAN WITH FLOWERS

From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "The presented Portrait of a Young Woman with Flowers, Today of unknown name, is an indisputable work of Václav Brožík, probably from the 1980s. At the end of the 19th century he was sought after portraitist and created portraits of many celebrities of his time. All of Brožík's portraits are characterized by individual facial expressions, delicate colors and smooth meticulous painting, which is also shown in the presented portrait. We observe strong influence of Flemish portrait Baroque painting, especially Anthonis van Dyck. Like him also Brožík had a sense of painterly expression of the dress's design, his color was to masterfully distinguish the types of fabrics and jewellery. As is typical for him, Brožík also applied the dark to black color in several shades on a non-specific background, with which the transparent design of the young lady's skin contrasts very impressively.
