František Drtikol (1883 - 1961) SALOME

Atelier photograph of Salome carries the charge of tense poses, movement and dynamic play with light. The dancer Salome, played here by his wife Ervína Kupferová, falls into an important period of the artist, when he already achieved considerable fame. The photo shows the artist's interest in Art Nouveau and symbolism, historical and mythical themes were among his favorites. In 1922 he had his first solo exhibition at UPM and already in 1925 he won the Grand Prix at the International Exhibition in Paris. František Drtikol created an impressive work, which we can undoubtedly rank among the greatest Czech contributions to world photography of the first half of the 20th century. He was one of the pioneers of the Czech artistic act - in the Czech lands, until then, sold photographic nudes were mainly from Vienna and Budapest.
