Mother-of-pearl, gold, miniature: watercolor, gouache. Biedermeier box, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, miniature with a view of Vienna on top of the lid. Balthasar Wigand studied painting at the Academy in Vienna. He specialized in miniature paintings of vedute and historical events from the life of Vienna, especially from the Napoleonic wars. Already his contemporaries highly valued his work for its highly objective and topographical precision connected with the tiny formats of Wigand's watercolors and gouaches.
