Despite all the distinctiveness of Ota Janeček's creative character, his work can be associated with Czech artists such as Jiří Trnka for his poetic landscape sensibility, Zdeněk Seydl or František Tichy. However, we can also find a connection to older artists such as Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Especially the winter motifs of this representative of 16th century Dutch painting attracted him with the melancholic lyricism of bare trees, whose rich branches stand out strikingly in their brown against the white background of the snowy landscape. The imaginative charge, executed with draughtsmanship, is often based on the intermingling of reality and dream, of precise natural detail with the cosmic whole of the earthly world in the evocative unity between man and the natural world that Janeček's illustrations exude. The work on offer, Winter, is part of a set of illustrations for a songbook for kindergartens published in 1986. Framed under anti-reflective glass with UV filter.
