The Colourful land or Landscape at Lužnice is a previously unpublished work by Otakar Lebeda, a pupil of Professor Julius Mařák, who worked for only 10 years but reached mastery as a 20-year-old boy. Even his earliest landscapes have hints of a questing and existential subtext. The work belongs to a more continuous series of works with the motif of a distant prospect in the manner of a Machian reverie. Typical here is the painting in a higher paste and the rich colouring characteristic of works from 1898 to 1901, when Lebeda left this world prematurely at the age of 24. Authenticity assessed by PhDr. Mgr. Michael Zachar.
