ART DECO BOX

The sculpturally richly rendered bronze box from the Art Deco period with the monogram MI and dating has a central depiction of a waterman reminiscent of the mythological god Triton, son of Poseidon, who is depicted as half fish and half man. The artist also incorporates this motif in the side reliefs, where he has depicted cups and pots with the souls of the drowned, a stylized aquatic animal and a water woman along with fish and freshwater seaweed.
